How to save a PDF editing draft and keep the original

Learn how SnippyPDF's browser-local recovery works, when to wait for the saved status, and why you should keep a separate copy of your original PDF.

Keep the original PDF separately

Before trying a change, keep the source file in a folder you control and work from a copy. For example, keep a fictional maintenance-checklist-original.pdf beside your working copy. SnippyPDF edits supported existing text and image objects in your browser; a scan, signed or encrypted file, complex page, or unsupported object may not be editable. The editor does not upload the PDF to a document-processing service.

Apply a change and wait for the saved status

After you apply a supported change, SnippyPDF saves a recovery draft in the current browser. Watch for the status to change from Saving on this device... to Saved on this device. You can also choose Save draft and wait for that status. If the editor reports a local save problem, do not assume the recovery copy is current; keep the original file and retry only after the storage issue is resolved. Saving a draft is separate from exporting an edited PDF.

Recover it in the same browser

Return to SnippyPDF on the same device and in the same browser profile. The editor can show Continue a saved draft with its filename and saved time. Choose Recover for the draft you want to continue. Recovery opens the last saved document state, but does not restore the earlier Undo and Redo history. A draft saved in Safari will not automatically appear in Chrome, and a phone's draft will not automatically sync to a computer.

Treat local recovery as temporary

A recovery draft is stored in this browser, not in a SnippyPDF cloud account. Private browsing, clearing this site's browser data, device loss, or browser storage limits can make it unavailable. Keep your original PDF somewhere separate; do not use the browser draft as your only copy or as a cross-device backup.

Save a separate exported file

The public trial downloads a separate PDF with “Powered by SnippyPDF” at the top and bottom of every page. Choose Export PDF, enter a new filename, then Save watermarked PDF. Private family members can sign in and redeem their code under Family access, then choose Save clean PDF · family access at no charge. Public paid passes have not launched; sandbox checkout is only for approved testers and collects no real payment. For example, download maintenance-checklist-edited.pdf beside maintenance-checklist-original.pdf. Wait for the download to finish, then open it in a separate PDF reader and check your changes before printing or sharing. A browser recovery draft is a way to continue editing; the downloaded file is the copy you can keep outside this browser.
